For the Love of Bike

Personal projects are an important of photography. From an artistic standpoint they may be even more important in terms of personal growth because they allow us, as photographers, to push ourselves. To step outside our comfort zones.

I recently finished one of those personal projects and I would like to share it with you. My lovely wife bought me a bike for Christmas this year. A bright, fire engine, red Electra Indy to be exact. Now my love of all things related to a bicycle is rivaled by very few things in this world. This is a natural subject for a personal project.

From a photography standpoint I wanted to make a photo that would spit in the face of traditional thought in regards to contrast and color densities. I’ve pushed the “styling” of these photos beyond what I would normally even consider, but for this subject, the inky prints that resulted are exactly what I was going for.
